Red Threads for Red Samplers: Haul

Desde hace tiempo tengo ganas de bordar una serie de Red Samplers -en distintos tamaños y estilos- para colocar en una pared de nuestro casa, "The Red Samplers Wall".

Lo primero que hice fue buscar todos los hilos que tenía en tonos Rojos. Ya sabéis, hay rojos y rojos!!

Como todavía no me han llamado para volver al trabajo y ya abrieron algunas tiendas, decidí aprovechar! Llamé primero para estar segura y no hacer el viaje en balde. Hice una cita y me fui de compras a Mari Pat´s Needlework shop en Long Beach, CA. 

Es una pequeña tienda que está a unas 23 millas de distancia. La dueña es un encanto y la tienda, aunque pequeña, tiene casi de todo! Pero yo fui por hilos... hummm, aunque compré algunos patrones... Una vez hecho el viaje, tenía que aprovechar!! LOL

La tienda tiene una buena selección de hilos de algodón pintados a mano, aunque muy poco en sedas. Llevé una lista de los colores que me interesaba ver en diferentes marcas, pero también quería ver algunos -que ya tenía en mi stash- para comprar más madejas y tener suficientes para realizar proyectos que tengo en mente. 

Esto es lo compré : 4 madejas The Gentle Arts en Buckeye Scarlet y  Schoolhouse Red; 4 madejas de Weeks Dye Works en Candy Apple ; 4 madejas de Silk Splendor en S820, 2 en S1004 , y 1 en S822 ;

Como en Mari Pat´s no tenían sedas Gloriana, que eran las que más me interesaban, hice un pedido a la tienda online de Kitten Stitcher or Shakespeare´s Peddle en la que se ofrecía un set de sedas Gloriana en color rojo. Justo lo que yo necesita para saber cuáles eran las opciones y qué colores me vendrían mejor para mis proyectos!! 

Estos son los colores que vienen en el Gloriana Set de 11 madejas: #035 Poinsettia , #139 Pomegranate , #109 Black Cherry , #062 Cranberry , #012 Rosewood , #156 Bordeaus , #306 Cinnabar Medium , #220 Cinnabar , ·248 Dutch Red , #149 Crimson , y #162 Schoolhouse Red.

Os dije "Hay rojos y rojos"... Así luce mi colección de hilos rojos a día de hoy! 

Todavía hay unos hilos que me gustaría añadir, como más sedas de AVAS y NPI. Pero por el momento estoy contenta con lo tengo; me permite empezar a programar algunos proyectos. Aquí os muestro varios, para que os hagáis una idea!

Y vosotras, tenéis un color de hilo rojo que os guste más que cualquier otro??

Me encantaría saber cuáles os gustan más. Me podéis ayudar a  incrementar a mi colección!

Quaker Legacy 1 , Finished!!

En mi ultimo reporte sobre mi proyecto Quaker Legacy 1 de Legacy Designs, me faltaba por bordar algunos motivos pequeños, el alfabeto y poner la personalización.

Lo primero que hice fue bordar el alfabeto. Una vez que decidí  cómo iba a personalizarlo, bordé los pequeños motivos que faltaban, en las ubicaciones precisas para dejar sitio para las iniciales. 

Desde que seleccioné este bordado, tenía en mente hacer algo especial con él, sobre todo en la personalización. Me he decantado por hacer de él un Sampler para celebrar a las nietas , de mi abuela materna, y sus respectivas hijas; o lo que es lo mismo, a mis hermanas y primas hermanas -por parte de madre- con sus hijas.  Un legado , como el nombre del diseño siguiere 💞  

He bordado las iniciales de mis primas hermanas junto a la inicial de su respectiva hija, en el siguiente orden : C (A) , R (S) , E (*M) , P (P) , I , P (E) , D (M) , M (C) y K.

Las iniciales de mis primas están realizadas en DMC 924 (Azul); las iniciales de mis sobrinas en NN 1412 (multicolor). Tengo 2 primas que no tienen hijas, por lo que he colocado sus iniciales (I, K) solamente. He puesto mis iniciales junto al año, con una corona encima ; yo no tengo hijas , pero soy la "reina de mi casa". 

En la inicial "M" correspondiente a mi sobrina Michelle, hija de mi hermana Eleonore, he colocado una pequeña corona, pues ella es mi ahijada y princesa! Este sampler pasará a sus manos cuando yo ya no esté.

Todavía no me he decantado por el acabado final que le voy a dar, tengo varias ideas pululando por mi mente, por ese motivo no os lo había mostrado antes; aunque lo termine de bordar hace varias semanas,   pensaba que os lo iba a mostrar ya con el acabado final, pero no ha sido así, y no tengo ni idea de cuando tomaré una decisión. 

Pero sigo en busca de ideas!! Si tenéis alguna, decídmelo en un comentario, por favor!!

Estoy muy contenta la personalización, la distribución de los colores que elegí y el resultado final. 

La aguja es una amiga fiel que siempre nos da la más grata compañía 

cuando deseamos estar a solas con nosotras mismas. MB-G

The Enchantment of Winter : Huge progress

During the months of May and June "The Enchantment of Winter" has been my focus project. It is not an easy one, but has something that keeps me going back to it, even thou I enjoy working on my other Wips.

My husband asked me "What are you going to do with this project? Are you going to frame it asap, or will you just put it in the pile of finished stitched pieces? Hummm... I´m not sure about it!  As many of my projects, and less they are accessories that need to be ensemble, after I finish the stitching part I just put them away in a roll storage. Framing is very expensive now days, it´s nothing I want to spend money on lately unless I find a very suitable frame at a low price or I have a discount coupon.

I enjoy working on this piece,  it keeps my mind focus on the project, (otherwise I make mistakes) and keep my thoughts away from all the things that are happening in the world right now; and lately, the "drama" in the cross stitching community at Instagram, Facebook , FlossTube  and other social medias. I pray all of this go away soon! 🙏

And keeping focus in what my hands were doing, let me to a HUGE progress!!

First I worked in completing both sides of the imperial egg... Oh, look at the lateral ornamentation !!

Them I move to work in the internal area that simulate the sky....

Now you can visualize the center scene showing thru...

I could not stop, and decided to work on the base of the egg with that beautiful filigree...

This is a very nice pattern to work with; the printing is very clear, the symbols are big and easy enough to read. The only problem I encounter is that the pages do not have overlapping areas; this is a big drawn-back to me. With so many color changes, it´s very hard to move from one page to another !

 

I had to use a Temporary Parking Floss technique and make working printing pages - to stick together- to be able to move from one page border to the next one with out making huge mistakes; that is and extra cost to this project that have 20 pages chart! 😡

Any way, I´m very happy with this piece, I can´t wait to work on it again❤️

La-D-Da Alphabet, a new project

Where does the time go? I don´t even know what day it is today! This social distance makes me lose the sense of time... It is almost 2 weeks since my last post.

A few weeks ago I decided to start a new project. Something not to big but not to small either. In my stash I found the pattern La-D-Da Alphabet from La-D-Da Designs, the same designer as the Big Flower  Sampler that I made in January.

The graphic calls for a 36ct linen in a golden color using silk threads from Hand-dyed Fibers in Basalt and Barley Wine. I´m using a Silkweaver Linen in Sand Storm 36ct with Needle Necessities Thread in #1342-Pacific Blue (variegated color) & Needlepaints thread #2106-Dk Robin's Egg (solid color)

I like the combination of the fabric with the threads I chose. I had stitched half of the border and the first row of the Alphabet.  Love, love, stitching letters!!

I'm thinking in start another project, this time something that needs to be assembled, like accessories.   Will see what I find!

Last Wednesday was my birthday!! My kids came; I love having them at home.  Rafael and Jimmy-Joe gifted me with plants and garden ornaments that I wanted, that made me so happy. We had a great time together 💕

Only Quakers , a new project.

I started this  design around April 10 of this year. Why it took me so long to talk you about it? Well, there are some reasons...   Take a seat, please 😊

Let´s start from the beginning. I bought this design many years ago, almost when it was just published, around 2008. In that time the LNS didn´t have the Valdani Threads that the chart requires, they had to be ordered. I didn´t want to order them, with the hope I will find them later , maybe in another store.

As it usually happens, I forgot about this chart until, around the end of 2015, when I found the threads, kit set  for this chart,  in a LNS where I used to meet with other stitchers in the area where I live. I was very happy to found them, but they where kinda expensive, but with a Gift card I bought them.

Shortly after that, I went on a stitching hiatus for almost 4 years, and again, I forgot about this project, until March of this year, when all the Covic-19 pandemic started and I have to stay at home in isolation.  

Quakers & Quilts is the original name of this project by Rosewood Manor. The booklet has 2 versions of the design ; one that can be stitched in full colors, or just the Quaker in 1 color.  I always liked the Quaker area more, BUT rather than to stitch it in 1 color, as is suggested, I want it to be stitched in multi-colors using the Valdani threads that I bought. 

The designer suggests using 28 Ct linen in color Mello, that is a motted yellow fabric.   In my stash I had a Legacy Linen 30ct in Cameo  Shell that is a soft yellow color. I placed the threads and fabric together and they looked great to me!!

I started stitching the top alphabet, but something didn´t look good to me... The crosses didn´t lay nicely on the fabric, they were to bulky. Also the stitched piece will be very big, even though I was using a bigger count than the recommended by the pattern. I stopped stitching, left it alone for few days , to see if my feelings changed.. but after 10 days, I still didn´t like it!! 😫

A few weeks later, I decided to restart it, stitching it 1x1 rather than 2x2, to make it much smaller. Well, well, the problems continues.... The Valdani threads are 3 strands floss, the strands are very fine and shred a lot, that makes the threads break very often! I know many of you will say "Used it in short lenghts"...  I only used 18 inches length threads to stitch!😡

Anyway, after weeks of frustration, I was able to see some progress. The pattern comes in 5 pages, my goal is to stitch 1 page every time this project comes up in my rotation. I finished the first page and was happy how it was looking...

Until today, when I was looking for a good picture of this design and found out, in the designer´s page, that the chart has a mistake!! What???

Yup, I will have to frog the band that is between the numbers and the Quaker motives because they should be done in a different color than the one showing in the pattern...🤬

Well, here I am , thinking if I will do that or not?  Should I leave it as it is now ? or should I change the color that makes the design to look much better?😐

Decisions, decisions... Tell me ¿What would you do?

My Rose bushes are in full bloom now, and both gardens are looking great. Plus, June is the month of my birthday. That makes me feel happy, happy! 🌹❤️

Quaker Legacy 1: Progress 2

Con lo del aislamiento y distancia social, los días se pasan sin que casi de cuenta. He bordado, pero más que nada, me he dedicado a proyectos que, por una razón u otra, había ido dejando para después, por no tener todo el tiempo necesario para dedicarles; pues ahora lo que me sobra es tiempo!!

En las 2 últimas semanas, hemos hecho reparaciones en casa, tanto dentro como fuera. He organizado los  libros de mi biblioteca personal, que era algo que deseaba hacer desde hace mucho, pues a veces buscaba un libro, que sabía que tenía, pero no lo encontraba, porque estaba en el orden equivocado. He limpiado armarios, cajones, alacena; he limpiado vidrios, ventanas, cortinas y demás; en fin , que he estado tan ocupada, que han habido días en que me ido a dormir muy temprano, porque el cuerpo no me daba para más.

Pero también he bordado; no tanto como me hubiese gustado; pero , cuando he podido, me he sentado a bordar hasta que se me cerraban los ojos! No he tenido tiempo de tomar fotos de los proyectos en los que estado trabajando; por lo que tampoco he publicado avances en Instagram.

Estoy trabajando en 4 proyectos, 2 de ellos nuevos. Hoy os quiero mostrar mis progresos en el Quaker Legacy 1.

A medida de que he ido avanzando he distribuido los colores de hilos que seleccioné para este diseño;  en el post anterior sobre este proyecto os hable sobre los colores que estoy usando. 

Terminé de bordar el border, donde he realizado pequeños cambios, casi imperceptibles. He distribuido los pequeños motivos que van entre los medallones quaker, de forma en que me permitan colocar las iniciales, de acuerdo a la forma en que tengo pensado personalizar este proyecto.

Me restan por bordar algunos pequeños motivos; lo demás será colocar las iniciales que voy a incluir en el diseño para personalizarlo. 

Me produce mucha paz bordar en este proyecto. Debe de ser por los colores que invitan a la serenidad; al verlos transmiten calma y sosiego, algo que nos viene muy bien estos tiempos que nos toca vivir, con la incertidumbre y alarma provocados por la pandemia del Covid-19

El jardín progresa maravillosamente!!  Hace unos días tuve una hermosa sorpresa con un bulbo de Amarilis;  que compré porque se suponía que era de color blanco y a mi madre que gustaban mucho. Este año floreció por primera vez, pero en lugar de ser blanco, resultó ser una especie muy difícil de conseguir de Amarilis con pétalos múltiples,  en color Durazno y crema, en gajos de 5 flores... Una belleza!!
